A Day on Clear Lake
This quilt is currently in progress. The image reflects our design vision; the finished piece may vary slightly in fabric selection. We'll update this page as the quilt comes to life.
Tucked within Oregon's Willamette National Forest, Clear Lake is unlike any other. Formed 3,000 years ago when a lava flow dammed the headwaters of the McKenzie River, its spring-fed waters are so clear you can see ancient submerged forests reaching 120 feet below the surface. No motorized boats are permitted — only canoes, kayaks, and the quiet rhythm of human-powered movement. To spend a day on Clear Lake is to experience nature at its most meditative: calm, timeless, and quietly astonishing.
The Crossed Canoes quilt pattern — a historical design dating to the late 1800s — felt like the only possible response. In its most minimal form, the pattern creates a kaleidoscopic optical illusion from just two colors, positive and negative values shifting and turning to generate extraordinary movement from simple shapes. Our colorway draws from the lake itself: two tones of teal, one deep and still, one bright as sunlight on water.
This is a limited edition design — one color story among several we envision bringing to life over the coming years. Fabrics are Tilda Solids and Chambrays, chosen for their subtle texture and quiet depth.
Finished size is approximately 84" × 105" — a generous queen-size companion for cool evenings.
